WHAT IS ESSENTRICS?
Essentrics, (also known as Classical Stretch), is dynamic. It's all about stretching through continual movement. It's not about holding a stretch in one position. Think of bending and twisting, pulling and pushing, reaching and extending....a bit like how a cat stretches!
It is a feel-good workout for the entire body.
WHY DO ESSENTRICS?
The obvious benefit of Essentrics is increased range of motion and flexibility. But there is so much more to Essentrics, more than one might expect from a typical stretch program: improved posture, balance and core strength as well pain relief by unlocking tight joints, and injury prevention through muscle rebalancing.
Essentrics is anti-aging. This is not just a claim for marketing the program. Moving smoothly, being agile, exuding positive energy and pulling the body up "long-and-lean" are evidence of NOT growing ancient, bent-up and creaky.
WHO DOES ESSENTRICS?
Most everyone can do Essentrics, regardless or gender or age. Much of the class is done standing, some work at the barre as well as floor work. So, participants have to be able to stand for a period of time as well as get down and up from the floor.
Many athletes have discovered Essentrics: golfers, racquet players, runners, triathletes......even Olympians and NHL hockey players are reaping the benefits.
One common denominator of those who practice Essentrics: very nice people.
HOW DOES ESSENTRICS WORK?
Essentrics strengthens and stretches every muscle in the body eccentrically, which is a concept opposite to the conventional concentric view of strengthening. Muscular structure is rebalanced as the body moves through continuous rotational movements. It incorporates various techniques including PNF and isotonic movement while systematically working every joint in the body. The basis of the workout is a dynamic combination of strength and flexibility exercises, designed to pull apart the joints by elongating the muscles and challenging them in the lengthened position. The full-body technique works through the muscle chains, liberating and empowering the muscles, relieving them from tension in the process. While the technique is original in itself, it has been influenced by several disciplines. Essentrics draws on the flowing movements of tai chi which create health and balance, the strengthening theories behind ballet which create long, lean flexible muscles and the healing principles of physiotherapy which create a pain-free body.

pain relief, increased flexibility and greatly improved posture. One students tells me, "The first thing I do after class, when I get into my car, is to adjust my rear view mirror."
Esssentrics is anti-aging. Over the past 18 years of teaching this program, I see how participants become more agile, balanced and free in movement so as to continue activities they have always enjoyed and able to try new challenges. I myself feel younger and stronger than I'd ever expected at age 69.
Essentrics helps athletes recover from injury and increase range of motion. It is so thrilling to witness a golfer's swing improve or a squash player resume competition.
Essentrics promotes increased positive energy, a feelings of well-being and relief from stress. It is a feel-good workout. It's about FEELING FREE!!|
